Kathmandu, Aug 26, Rup Narayan Shrestha has been elected the president of Socialist Students Union (SSU). The SSU is the student wing of the Socialist Party Nepal which was formed with the merger of the then Nayashakti Party and the Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum.
A 29-member working committee of the Union under Shrestha’s chairmanship was announced at a merger programme of the student wings of the erstwhile Nayashakti Party and the Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum in Lalitpur today. The working committee was formed unanimously.
The other office-bearers in the working committee include Ramesh Yadav (senior vice-president) and Netra Chapagain, Subas Labung, Rajendra Oli ‘Bibek’, Rita Yadav, Ishwar Adhikari, Bishal Angdambe, Tanka Dhamala, Sanjaya Rai and Dipesh Yadav as vice-presidents.
Likewise, Barun Yadav has been nominated as general secretary while Nember Rai, Sushma Devkota, Prakash Chamling, Bal Bahadur Ramtel, Rajani Shrestha and Dinesh Dangal are elected as deputy general secretary of the Union.
The secretaries are Amod Yadav, Bharat Lisani, Ram Chandra Rai, Ram Bahadur Bhandari, Sujiv Giri, Resham Sapkota, Subas Rai, Ramananda Shah, Manish Yadav and Hemraj Thapa. Om Narayan Yadav is the treasurer. Socialist party president Upendra Yadav and party senior leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai among party leaders had extended best wishes to the office-holders of the newly-formed Union’s working committee on the occasion.
