Kathmandu, Aug 25, The National Federation of Chhetri Society Nepal has demanded the reservation for Chhetri people, the most populous caste in Nepal. During the Federation’s 18th General Assembly, speakers on the occasion, however, were of the view that class-based reservation system would be better in the context of Nepal to make sure the proportional inclusion of all in state organs, instead of existing caste-based one.
If the State wishes to continue with the caste-based reservation provisions, disadvantaged Chhetri people should not be deprived of the opportunities, they said. On the occasion, Prof Dr Surendra KC said every citizen should be ready to sacrifice for the causes of the nation. Federation Chair Bishnu Khadka informed the gathering that the Federation was working for national tolerance.
Federation general secretary Bahadur Singh Bista presented the organisation’s annual report. Senior advisor to the Federation, Kumar Karki, stressed the need of protecting Nepal’s history, religion, culture and tradition.
