Lamichhane, Kandel and Karki remanded in custody for five days

Chitwan, Aug 16 : The Chitwan District Court has remanded Rabi Lamichhane, a programme presenter at News 24 Television in custody for five days. Also sent in detention for further investigation along with Lamichhane are journalist Yubaraj Kandel and nurse Ashmita Karki.

The single bench of judge Binod Kumar Gautam issued an order to remand them in custody for five days while hearing the case on their involvement in the abetted suicide of former colleague and journalist Salikram Pudashaini, according to record keeper at the court, Rudramani Giri.

Three lawyers including senior advocate Sunil Pokhrel and Chudamani Sapkota have been pleading for Lamichhane. All of them would be kept in the detention of District Police Office. As per the law, they can be detained for as many as 25 days for the investigation.

The police had arrested Lamichhane, Kandel and Karki from Kathmandu for their alleged involvement in abetted suicide of Pudashaini, journalist at the Mountain Television. Meanwhile, Lamichhane supporters demonstrated at the gates of District Police Office and District Court throughout the day here today. They are demanding immediate release of Lamichhane.

Lamichhane and Kandel were held from the News 24 Office and Karki from Kalanki, Kathmandu, on Thursday evening.
