Kathmandu, Nov 3, A pleading on whether to continue former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara in detention for the investigation in regard with the rape attempt against him has begun at the Kathmandu District Court.
According to court’s Information Officer Gyan Bahadur Karki, the hearing began at the closed bench of District Judge Sudarshan Pandey. Following the completion of pleading, the court will issue an order whether to continue Mahara’s detention or release him on bail.
The Kathmandu District Attorney Office had, in accordance with the Clause 34 (3) of National Criminal Code-2074 BS, filed a case of rape attempt against Mahara last Thursday.
He is alleged of attempting to rape a woman employee at the Federal Parliament Secretariat. The court on October 6 had allowed for keeping Mahara in detention for the investigation into the case.
