People depend on boat to cross river with bridge construction in limbo

Gaighat, July 31, A decade has passed since the foundation stone was laid for construction of an RCC bridge over the Triyuga river at Siwai Sundarpur of Chaudandi municipality-5.

But the bridge construction has not seen any progress so far and the people are compelled to use boats to cross the swollen river during monsoon, risking their life.

Mahalaxmi Lokapriya JV Construction Company had been awarded the contract for the construction of the bridge.

The construction company has not started any work so far, not even the work of construction of the bridge’s pillars.

People are compelled to use boat to cross the river to travel from Siwai to Beltar Bazar of Chaudandi municipality, Dev Narayan Chaudhari, Chair of Chaudandi municipality, Ward No 5, said. The boat fare is Rs 20 per person for one time.
