Kathmandu, Jan 30: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the government would assist in constructing the cricket stadium of international standard which is being undertaken by Dhurmus Suntali Foundation in Bharatpur of Chitwan.
During a programme organized here to sign the letter of agreement between the Foundation and Bharatpur Metropolis on the construction of the Gautambuddha International Cricket Stadium in Chitwan on Wednesday, Prime Minister Oli said international cricket tournaments are not held in Nepal because of lack of a proper stadium, so the construction of the stadium of international standard was essential. “The cricket grounds we have at Mulpani and Kirtipur of Kathmandu are the makeshift ones. They also need upgrading.”
According to him, sports and politics are inseparable, he said, reminding that in the past the Logline race was conducted to be eligible for the King.
The Prime Minister argued that the international community was informed about Nepal’s campaign for prosperity and the efforts were expedited to materialize the prosperity.
On a different note, he admitted that the Melamchi drinking water project could not be completed on time. The government would hold dialogue with the contractors to expedite the remaining task.
Similarly, he viewed that it was unfortunate to inflate that Nepal’s democracy was dwindling, while the government was ready for dialogue to resolve the problems.
On the occasion, NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said politicians are themselves to maintain a clean image of politics. “Be sure, Nepal’s politics will be clean within a decade. It enters a new phase.”
It is because of the sports, many countries have been united and been able to elevate their economies and ensure prosperity. It is too late for us to make headway to development. He, however, said all sides’ cooperation was imperative to realize the prosperity.
Nepali Congress General Secretary Dr. Sashank Koirala said Nepal is being widely known in the world due to sports in the recent time. For the construction of cricket stadium and development of sports, NC would provide utmost support, he assured.
Minister for Youth and Sports, Jagat Bahadur Bishwokarma, said it was the great achievement for Nepal to win international acclaim in sports despite adversity.
Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolis Renu Dahal said the Metropolis was ready to provide land for the construction of the international cricket stadium. The stadium would be completed in two years and effort would be made to conduct first cricket match between India and Pakistan, she added.
