Kathmandu, Oct 20, Dalit rights activist Dr Bishnu Maya Pariyar has established a journalism prize in the name of his father Rup Bahadur Pariyar. He announced the prize with a purse of Rs. 20,000 at a discussion held with the Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) Dalit delegates here on Saturday.
The programme was organised by National Dalit Journalists’ Association Nepal. Dr Pariyar also pledged to continue supporting the Dalit movement and for the upliftment of the Dalit community from the USA. She has also been providing scholarship to near 20,000 Dalit and poor students in six different districts of Nepal.
Dr Pariyar is founding chair of the Association for Dalit Women’s Advancement Nepal. She is also an advisor to the mayor of New Jersey city, USA. On the occasion, Chairperson of the World Forum Against Racial Discrimination Tirtha Verma also announced a prize of Rs. 10,000.
He also expressed commitment to collaborate with the Dalit Journalists’ Association. Both the prizes will be distributed annually with support of the Association.
