HoR meeting postpones amidst NC’s protest

Kathmandu, Sept 16 : The meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday has been postponed until September 11 following a protest by main opposition Nepali Congress over the Banke incident.

Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara announced the meeting postponement after NC lawmakers chanted slogans and obstructed the meeting for around 35 minutes demanding action against those behind the attack on NC leaders and cadres in Banke.

Right after NC lawmakers stood from their seats after the commencement of the meeting, Speaker Mahara gave time for NC lawmaker Puspa Bhusal to put her view. She demanded that Speaker direct an arrest and action against those involved in the attack.

Earlier on Sunday, the NC had also obstructed HoR meeting over the same issue. Lawmaker from ruling Nepal Communist Party, Nanda Lal Roka dismissed the Banke incident as not being the one sketched by the NC in their favour. “We will also do the same if opposition party launches a protest. We will accept the truth, but not a false,” he said referring to the incident.

Amidst the protest, Speaker Mahara tried to appease the protesting NC lawmakers by saying “the issue you have raised has taken the attention. I want to say something to the government relating to the issue raised by the opposition party. I want to urge the lawmakers to sit in their respective seats and help operate the session.”
