Patients coming for treatment at the government-run Jajarkot hospital are being forced to buy drugs in private stores, as the hospital has run out of its stock.
Even medicines available for free are not accessible and have to be bought instead in higher price. Sudam Khadka of Nalgaad municipality-6 has an insurance coverage carried out by the government but he failed to get the drugs recommended to him by doctors for his sore leg.
Likewise, Janak Singh suffering from typhoid had come all the way from Kushe rural municipality to get medicine but returned empty handed. He was forced to buy it from a private drug store.
The hospital currently has more than 17 kinds of drugs frequently used by the patients. And the people with health insurance coverage have suffered more, as it is a double financial burden for them.
Meanwhile, Dr Keshar Karki at the hospital said procurement of drugs has faced a problem as the financial audit of last fiscal year was not completed. Lack of its own accountant is causing this problem for the hospital, says Karki.
