Kathmandu, Sept 5 .An agreement has been reached to open the old Upaku route in the Dharahara area.
The route was closed following the construction of Dharahara damaged in the earthquake of April 2015. The agreement was reached between local people’s representatives, representatives from the National Reconstruction Authority and representatives from the contract company.
The decision was taken in opening the route in view of Upaku celebrated by the Newari community during Indra Jatra, said the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
The Newari community on the occasion that falls on September 10 this year on the second day of waxing moon in the month of Bhadra as per the lunar calendar revisits the traditional Newar settlements established during ancient times with butter lamps in hands.
