Kathmandu, Aug 20, In a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), the Lower House members aired their views on issues relating to the condition of roads in the Kathmandu Valley, appointment of Universities officials and the principle of proportional representation and inclusion in employee’s recruitment.
They were speaking in a special hour of the session. Krishna Gopal Shrestha said though roadways inside the Valley witnessed comparative improvements lately, there was no condition of being satisfied.
“The Kalanki-Nagdhunga road widening project has been hampered due to compensation issues. The Chabahil-Jorpati route is mocking the government,” he said, suggesting that roads here should compulsorily have bicycle lanes.
Bhimsen Das Pradhan said appointments of University officials on the basis of power sharing in the past ruined the image of such supreme academic institutions. He sought academic competency and seniority as criteria for appointments.
Amrita Agrahari accused the government of failing to acknowledge the voices of the people of Tarai/ Madhesh, demanding that a report of the Girish Chandra Lal Commission about the Tarai/Madhes movement be unveiled and implemented.
Pradeep Yadav said the Public Service Commission’s recent vacancy announcements were against the spirit of the constitution and breached the principle of proportional representation and inclusion.
Tejulal Chaudhary questioned why farmers affected by the construction of Koshi Barrage in Sunsari, Saptari and Udaypur had not been provided compensation yet.
He urged the government to address their demands instantly. Rajendra Gautam claimed that a parliamentary committee study report about flood, landslides and inundation issues was incomplete, speaking the need of its corrections.
Dev Prasad Timilsina drew the Speaker’s attention towards making provisions for addressing issues raised by parliamentarians in zero and special hours. Kalyani Khadka urged the State to pay a special attention to solving the issues of inundation and flooding facing people of southern plain in Rautahat.
Naryan Prasad Khatiwada apprised the House that activities capable of influencing investigation into the death of journalist Shalikram Pudasaini. Prem Suwal advised the government to withdraw PSC vacancy announcements for the local levels.
