Kathamndu, Aug 3 : The first Japan-Nepal doctors’ conference has kicked off in the federal capital, Kathmandu, today.
‘Japan-Nepal friendship for improving health system of Nepal’ is the main theme of the conference, hosted by an organization of Japan-educated doctors under the Japanese University Alumni Association of Nepal (JUAAN).
The event is taking place on the premises of Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu from today. The conference is being attended by Nepali doctors who completed their education from Japanese universities and are working in several hospitals and organizations of Nepal as well as Japanese doctors.
Inaugurating the conference, Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Masamichi Saigo said the doctors who pursued their education in Japan are contributing much to the medical sector of Nepal and Japan.
Dr Yasuhiko Suzuki, Dr Rameswor Pokharel, Dr Narayan Basnet, Dr Osamu Nakagomi, Dr Sushamshu KC and Dr Ameet Khanal had presented working papers on different themes.
Among the themes presented on the occasion were Japan-Nepal tuberculosis elimination, child mortality in Nepal, use of modern medicine, treatment of hepatitis in Nepal and community-based oral health and hygiene education.
Also other themes presented and discussed include cancer surgery in Nepal, triple negative breast cancer, treatment of cancer in Kathmandu-based hospitals after 2015 earthquake, health education in Nagasaki University, Pulmonary Embolism and public education in Japan and other developed countries, among others.
On the occasion, doctors said yoga can also be applied to supplement the modern medical science. Japanese doctors said there are several to learn from Nepal in the area of community-based education.
Dr Narayan Bahadur Basnet, a participant, said the first-ever conference would offer opportunity to doctors from Nepal and Japan to exchange experience and learn from each other.
As many as 43 doctors who studied in Japan are associated to the organization under JUAAN.
