Kamalbinayak-Nagarkot road still in limbo

Nagarkot, July 29, The House of Representatives (HoR) Committee on Development and Technology has made an on-site monitoring of Kamalbinayak-Nagarkot road which has not been completed in six years since its contract was awarded.

Locals have voiced their complaints that the failure to complete the construction of 17-km road which was contracted out in 2013 has imparted a wrong message to the world via tourists.

Nagarkot has been a preferred tourism destination for domestic and foreign tourists as visitor can take joy of sight-seeing of world’s highest peak Sagarmatha and other several mountains as well as sun rise from Nagarkot.

At an interaction organized after parliamentary monitoring, committee president Kalyani Kumari Khadka directed the concerned government agencies to complete blacktopping of road before the Nepal Visit Year 2020.
Changunarayan municipality mayor Som Prasad Mishra said many people had to lose their lives in road accidents and the prolonging renovation has incurred big loss to tourism entrepreneurs.

The municipality would be compelled to take strict actions if the recently extended deadline is not served, mayor Mishra warned. It may be noted that Shailung Construction was awarded a contract of Rs 378.6 million.
