Health insurance coverage for single women

Okhaldhunga, July 28, The Sunkoshi rural municipality in the district has decided to bear the cost of medical treatment of single women in the rural municipality.

This has been declared in the policy and programme that the rural municipality announced for the new fiscal year 2019/20.

Those who remain single until 50 years of age and have become widowed before reaching 35 will avail of the facility, said the rural municipality chair Rudra Prasad Adhikari.

The programme is part of the initiative to provide protection to the helpless. The rural municipality will also provide financial support to people suffering from serious diseases.

Last year, the municipality had introduced programmes targeting the senior citizens, Dalit and people with disabilities.

“This policy by the municipality will help the single women gain some recognition in the society,” women rights worker Muna Shrestha said.

Meanwhile, the rural municipality has begun collecting through its ward offices the data of single women, according to the rural municipality office in Mulkharka.
