Students unable to attend school due to flooded river

Parasi, July 26, Fifty students at Sukhaura, Bardaghat municipality-2 in west Nawalparasi have been compelled to abandon school in this monsoon.

The school children from Sukhaura have to go to school in Bhumahi in Sunawal municipality-12. They have to cross the local Dambhar rivulet on the way. There is no bridge over the rivulet and the children cannot cross the swollen stream to go to school, said a local Dewan Gurung.

The Dambarbhar river flows between Sukhaura and Jarghaha and separates Bardaghat and Sunawal municipalities. This seasonal rivulet is impossible to cross during monsoon.

Although adults cross the river risking their life, the school children cannot cross it and they cannot attend school throughout the monsoon (rainy season). ‘Our kids cannot go to school throughout the rainy season due to lack of bridge over the Dambhar river near our locality, Gurung said, expressing helplessness.

More than 50 students of the area have been studying at different schools of Bhumahi for secondary level to campus level education.

Students of Sukhaura of Bardaghat pursuing education above primary level have been compelled to come to Bhumai of Sunwal for the education. Transport service at the area has been obstructed due to flood on the rivulets.

A students of Sukhaura studying at Motilal Campus, Bhumahi, Netra Bahadur Thapa, complained that there is a situation where many children are compelled to give up their education as they have to cross the rivulets keeping their lives at risk during monsoon season.

Although construction of an RCC bridge was started at the rivulet located at Bhumahi-Jargaha-Dhurkot road section in order to complete it within mid-July at Rs 10 million budget of Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development of State 5, locals have been facing the problems this year too as the construction of the bridge was not completed this year.
