CIAA Surkhet office receives highest number of complaints on education

Surkhet, July 24, The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Surkhet office has drawn highest number of complaints related to education sector, a report reveals.

The anti-graft body made public the report at a press conference on Tuesday. The report unveiled by CIAA Surkhet office in-charge Gyan Raj Subedi showed total 963 complaints were lodged at the office during the fiscal year 2075/76 BS among which 311 (33 percent) were related to the performance of the ministry of education, science and technology.

Total 552 complaints (57 %) among the registered were settled while 411 are still under investigation process, office-in-charge Subedi informed. “Education sector has received the highest number of complaints.

Mainly the complaints are on teachers’ appointment, mid-day meal and building construction”, he shared. Likewise, 263 complaints were lodged under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration in the last fiscal year. It follows 105 complaints related to forest and environment, 57 related to energy, hydropower and irrigation, 48 of health and population, 42 related to physical infrastructure and transport, 36 of drinking water and 24 related to ministry of agriculture and livestock, he informed.

The Ministry of Finance had drawn the least number of complaints in the fiscal year. In-charge Subedi further shared that the complaints regarding irregularities of local government were higher than that of state government affairs.

Surkhet topped the list of complaint registration with 201 followed by Dailekh (168), Jajarkot (127), Kalikot (91), Mugu (82), Salyan (77), Jumla (74), Rukum-west (62), Humla (49) amd Dolpa (28). Total graft complaints registered in the districts during the last fiscal were 963.

According to the report, 927 complaints were registered through letter, 15 via email, 18 via newspaper, two via facebook and one through fax. The CIAA Surkhet office had mobilized teams to investigate into the graft complaints in different 441 areas in the last fiscal year. —
