Bhaktapur, July 19 – Fourteen persons, including Minister for Foreign Affairs and Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Standing Committee member, Pradip Kumar Gyawali, and his spouse Saraswati Gyawali pledged to donate their organs after death.
At an interaction programme organized by the Martyr Dharmabhakta Human Organ Transplant Centre in Bhaktapur on Friday, those donors signed in the paper agreeing for brain death organ donations.
Minister Gyawali and his spouse signed the paper to donate important organs, such as kidney, liver, heart, pancreas and small intestine to any patients whose tissues match.
Stating that the government was ready to extend utmost support to the patients despite the resources crunch, Gyawali shared that the government was effortful to bear up to Rs 100 thousand for the treatment of the beneficiaries of the Health Insurance scheme.
Centre’s Director Dr Pukar Chandra Shrestha said that although there was legal provision for donation of brain death organs, lack of awareness on it was discouraging number of organ donors in Nepal.
