Chitwan, Oct 22, At least 33 people died in road accidents occurred in the district since mid-July 2019. Total 81 accidents took place during the period. As many as 180 people were injured in the road mishaps. According to the district traffic police office, such accidents are more frequent in inner roads.
Chandra Kumar Giri, office in-charge and police inspector, at least 24 accidents took place in inner roads during the period of three months. As many as ten people died and 34 injured in the accidents. Likewise, the East-West Highway and Narayangarh-Muglin road stretch had witnessed 18 road accidents each while it was 11 in the Prithvi Highway and 10 in the Bharatpur Metropolis, according to the official data.
The district saw total 85 accidents in the same period last fiscal year. Total 49 had lost their lives and 231 sustained injuries during the period. Motorbike accident is the most frequent in the district, shared police inspector Giri.
Drunk-driving in the night time is found to be the leading cause behind recurring motorbike accident, he added. In order to lessen the road accidents, the traffic police have tightened the traffic security screening in the city area.
