New York, Sept 24, (Special Representative Sharachchandra Bhandari) The high-placed officials of the United Nations (UN) have lauded Nepal’s contributions to the global peace-building missions through UN peacekeeping force.
In separate courtesy meets with Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali in New York on Monday, Under Secretary General at UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix and Under Secretary General at UN Department of Operational Support Atul Khare appreciated bravery, professionalism and honesty of Nepali peacekeeping forces.
Minster Gyawali now is in New York in course of attending the 74th sessions of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Noting that Nepal has laid high emphasis on supporting peace keeping missions spearheaded by the UN for international peace and stability, Minister Gyawali pledged to continue its support to the cause as per the country capacity.
“UN goals and objectives are taken to be the integral part of Nepal’s foreign policy. So, Nepal has placed high emphasis on peacekeeping mission”, Minister Gyawali added.
On the occasion, Minister Gyawali expressed Nepal’s readiness in increasing the number of peacekeepers at the request of the UN. Present in both the meetings were joint-secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bharat Raj Poudyal, Permanent Representative to the UN Amrit Kumar Rai and Deputy Permanent Representative Ghanashyam Bhandari.
