Kathmandu, Sept 4 . A poetry recitation programme was held at the Library Hall of Nepal Academy on Tuesday. The event titled ‘World Festival of Poetry’ was organised on the initiation of Bhaba Dev Pant Smriti Pratisthan.
Dr. Yuri Zambrano, Chief Coordinator of World Festival of Poetry, (from Mexico), Aminur Rahman Asia Coordinator of WFP (from Bangladesh), Dr. Reshma Ramesh (from India) and Mayra Chavez (from Mexico) along with 14 Nepalese poets recited their poems based on the theme of ‘Poetry for Peace’.
The chief guest of the program was senior poet and former chancellor of Nepal Academy Bairagi Kaila.
Dr. Yuri Zambrano, Bhuban Hari Sigdel, Aminur Rahman, Pralhad Pokharel, Ms Reshma Ramesh, Kosh Raj Neupane, Mayra Chavez, Toya Gurung, Ms Hiranya Kumari Pathak, Bhisma Raj Dhungana, Bishwa Bimohan Shrestha, Ms. Rashmi Rimal, Ms Rejina Pandey and Ms. Saanvi Singh Thapa (a student of Modern Indian School) recited their creations on the occasion.
Dr Zambrano, the event chief coordinator, shared that on the occasion of the festival this time, a series of recitations was conducted in several towns in India and in Bangladesh as well with the participation of local poets. As he said, this movement has already spread out with about 8,000 poets across the world being guided by a yearning for world peace through the promotion of goodwill, harmony and humanity in the society.
He said, “They are now on a tour to South Asia for the Poetic Readings which witnessed huge participation. And now they have arrived in Nepal to recite poems with the prominent Nepalese poets, interact with them and know each other.”
Similarly Asia Coordinator of WFP, Aminur Rahman said that poetry helped one to have self-satisfaction and through this, he got an opportunity to build an agency of good friends. He said his recent meeting with Rastrakavi Madhav Prasad Ghimire was a matter of great inspiration for him.
Dr Reshma Ramesh spoke about the presence and role of women in literature, adding that their increased participation was needed for the empowerment of women through literature.
Chief Guest Bairagi Kaila described peace and poetry as interdependent issues with having an integral relations and event like the World Poetry Festival would promote cordial relationship among the poets throughout the world and finally contribute to world peace.
On this occasion senior member of Bhaba Dev Pant Smriti Pratisthan, Mr. Purushottam Raj Joshi, presented Token of Love to the chief guest and to the participating foreign poets.
The programme was conducted by Festival’s Nepal coordinator and Pratisthan secretary Bijay Dev Bhatta.
