Nine children rescued

Kathmandu, Aug 23, Nine children–five girls and four boys–were rescued amidst highly vulnerable conditions from a shelter at Khwapato Tole in Sitapaila of Nagarjun municipality-4. A team led by the National Child Rights Council recently rescued them from the ‘ Namuna Pragatisheel Women Society and Youth Community Service Centre’.

The rescue was assisted by Metropolitan Police Circle Swoyambhu, Children Search Coordination Center, Child Helpline and local representatives, Council proramme manager Namuna Bhusal said. The children of five to 11 years of age are originally from Bardiya ( four), Kalikot ( four ) and Kailali ( one).

According to the Council, the home was found violating the minimum operation standard. Children were deprived of adequate food, proper residence, education and protection.

Provisional arrangements have been made for the protection of rescued children. The owner and other people associated with the shelter have been taken under police control for investigations.
