Bajura, Aug 9, The entire rural Andradi village has been at risk of being washed away by a landslide continuing for the past five days. Around two-day walk from the district headquarters, Martadi, the village housing around 35 families lies in between a river and hills.
As a result of a landslip, the villagers are forced to spend sleepless nights, said a local Dhan Bahadur Bohara. The landslip that has been occurring since Sunday night has split the village into two parts.
Of the families at risk, 13 need to be shifted to a safe area immediately. “There is not a situation where we can go somewhere leaving behind our property. We cannot stay here either,” said Bohara.
The village lacks telephone service. As a result, there have been difficulties in taking stock of the situation of the village, said a people’s representative. Vice chairperson of the village Sita Thapa recently conducted a field inspection of the incident area.
A rural municipality meeting would be called soon, and necessary initiatives would be taken to relocate the people at risk of a landslide, she said. Initiatives have been taken to shift the affected villagers, said ward member Harka Bohara.
