Baral picked up for ‘Prakash Human Rights Award

Kathmandu, July 31, The 25th Prakash Human Rights Award is to be conferred on Guru Prasad Baral of Morang in recognition of his around fifty-decade long activism against exploitation, discrimination and social evils. The award carries a purse of Rs 50,000.

An award selection committee coordinated by Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) general secretary Ramesh Chandra Poudel decided to pick him for the award, INSEC chair Dr Indira Shrestha said in the press statement today.

Noted human rights activist and INSEC founding general secretary Prakash Kafle died in the Thai Air Crash at Ghoptebhir of Nuwakot on July 31, 1992. The award was instituted to make his contributions to the sectors of human rights and social justice long-lasting.

The annual award is given to a personality contributing significantly to the fields of human rights, politics, education, health and social issues on the occasion of the death anniversary of Prakash Kafle. So far, 24 people have received the award which will be presented tomorrow,Thursday.
