Kathmandu, July 30, Nepali Congress (NC) lawmakers have demanded the government investigate the death of Yukta Prasad Shrestha who had been under the CIAA interrogation for his ‘alleged’ involvement in the Baluwatar land scam.
In a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, the House of Representatives today, Devendra Raj Kandel dubbed the death of Shrestha who was said to have jumped off from the eighth floor of Balaju-based Himalayan City Center ‘mysterious’, drawing the attention of the Home Minister and Nepal Police towards ensuring a serious investigation in regard with it.
The 57-year-old Shrestha had been involved in the politics in Parbat from the Nepali Congress after resigning from the post of civil service non-gazetted first class officer (Nayab Subba) at the Dillibazaar Land Revenue Office.
The incident had happened on Sunday and as police said it was a suicide. However, the NC lawmaker cast his doubt over the police report as he said no blood stain was seen on the spot where he was said to be fallen from the tall building.
He demanded the investigation into the incident to bring out facts surrounding it. Another lawmaker Dilendra Prasad Badu said the body of Basanta Bahadur Singh which had been found hanging in a jungle a week ago in Kanchanpur posed a challenge to the country’s security condition. He sought the government’s response to the case seriously.
Dila Sangroula said it was an unfortunate that perpetrator(s) in the killing of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur had not been arrested yet though it had been already a year since the incident had happened.
She sought the government’s attention towards the establishment of peace and security in the country. Committee another member Prem Suwal of Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party stressed the Nepal Police should be established as an independent body so as to find an end impunity taking place in regard with the wide-body purchase scam, Baluwatar land scam and other incidents of corruption under political patronage.
