Kathmandu, March 27 The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has warned the Nepal Athletics Association (NAA) of its suspension, citing NAA’s violation of the IAAF statute by failing to hold its elections on time.
The warning was made through the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Nepal.”The NAA violated the IAAF statute by not conducting its elections on time. The NAA will be suspended and it will be barred from participating in any international, regional and continental sports competitions if it fails to hold its elections soon,” read a letter sent by the IAAF. The NAA’s President Rajib Bikram Sah confirmed the warning. He said its elections would be held soon.
Internal disputes are to blame for the delay in organising NAA’s elections on time. A working committee meeting of the NAA had decided to organise its elections on August 14, 2018 in Chitwan. But it was postponed for September 7, 2018 following the direction by the National Sports Council in this regard citing its preparations for the Asian Games.—
