Kathmandu, Nov 14: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Gokarna Bista has urged the international organizations to make their role more effective regarding getting the provision of sending the labourers on foreign employment at zero investment implemented in the labour supplying countries.
Minster Bista said this during a meeting with the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Asia and Pacific Region regional director Dr Maria Nenette Motus on Wednesday. The IOM official had paid a courtesy call on the Labour Minister at his office in Singha Durbar. On the occasion, Minister Bista said that workers were suffering many difficulties due to the unhealthy competition in the labour supply.
He urged the IOM to work with determination to have the provision of the employers themselves bearing all the expenses to sending the labourers implemented in letter and spirit. Saying there was need of minimum standard for systematizing the labour recruiting process, Minister Bista suggested that IOM could play significant role in formulating such standards.
He also suggested for moving forward by making long-term strategy on labour migration. IOM regional director Motus appreciated the Government of Nepal’s role in making the labour migration safe, systematic and dignified, the Ministry of Labour stated today.
