9 militants killed in shootout with police near Egypt’s capital

CAIRO, Sept. 18 At least nine terrorists were killed on Wednesday in exchange of fire with the police forces near Cairo, the country’s Interior Ministry said in a statement.

“The police has received some information about the hideout of some terrorists in two remote cities of Abour and 15 May,” the statement said.

The police raided their apartments, seizing six automatic weapons, some electric circuits and an explosive device, it added, noting the exchange of fire has killed nine terrorists.

The militants included Mahmoud Qasem who has been involved in assassination of an army brigadier and attacking police check point, according to the statement.
Egypt has been launching security operation to uproot terrorism following the ouster of the Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

The anti-security operations, mainly centered in Sinai Peninsula, have left hundreds of army and policemen killed. Enditem
