Kathmandu, Aug 30. The Ministry of Forests and Environment has penalized more than two dozen industries and hospitals flouting the statutory standards and contributing to pollution.
The Ministry’s Environment Department had recommended action against the industries and hospitals not obeying the Environment Conservation Act or operating without conducting the environment impact assessment (EIA) or against the EIA guidelines, after carrying out a monitoring.
Chief of the Environment and Bio-diversity Division at the Ministry, Yagya Nath Dahal said these industries and hospitals have been imposed fine in the range of Rs 25,000 to Rs 2 million as per the Environment Conservation Act, 2053.
The Ministry fined Chandragiri Hills Limited Rs 2 million. Likewise, it imposed fine of Rs 90,000 each to KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital, Ganesh Man Singh Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, Kathmandu Medical College, Kathmandu Valley Hospital, Alka Hospital Pvt Ltd, Khanal Agreegates Pvt Ltd Tanahu, Chitwan Medical College, Chandika Distillery Pvt Ltd Morang and Noble Hospital Pvt Ltd.
Also fined Rs 90,000 are Asian Thai Food Pvt Ltd Sunsari, Baba Vegetable Oil Industries Morang, Yeti Distillery Pvt Ltd Chitwan, Reliance Spinning Mills Sunsari, Ghorahi Cement Industries Pvt Ltd Dang, Premier Wires Pvt Ltd Morang, Quality Thai Foods Pvt Ltd Morang, Om Plywood Industries Nepalgunj, Pragati Textiles Industries Pvt Ltd Sunsari and KP Cemenet Industry Dhading.
Similarly, facing penalty and fine for flouting the environment standards and pollution are Ayurveda Hospital Naradevi, Everest Hospital Pvt Ltd, Norvic International Hospital and Medical College, Paropakar Maternity and Obstetrics Hospital, Shukraraj Tropical and Communicable Disease Hspital, Nepal Eye Hospital and Quality Grill and Crusher Industry Tanahu.
These industries and hospitals are facing two types of action – penalty for polluting and flouting or not carrying out the EIA.
