Kathmandu, Aug 23, The National Assembly (NA) has unanimously passed a proposal to review ‘Environment Protection Bill, 2076’. Minister for Forest and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet tabled the proposal alongside a message from the House of Representatives in today’s NA meeting.
Responding to queries raised in the meeting by lawmakers on the proposal, minister Basnet said various provisions in the bill has enforced review of environmental impacts before starting any project.
The bill has embraced a new dialogue on relation between developments, environment and pollution control in line with the federalism system.
Lawmakers like Komal Oli, Jitendra Narayan Dev, Prakash Panta, Ramesh Prasad Yadav, Pramila Kumari and Dr Bimala Poudel raised their queries on the proposal. NA Secretary Rajendra Phuyal tabled the Forest Bill, 2075 received from the House of Representatives with a message.
Likewise, NA Chair Ganesh Prasad Timilsina read out a letter received from the Office of President, mentioning that Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ishwor Pokharel has been assigned to look after daily administrative works of Prime Minister in the absence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Prime Minister Oli on Thursday left for Singapore for his regular medical checkups. The NA will next meet on August 25 (1pm).
