Nuwakot, July 26, A postnatal woman of Nuwakot district died after bleeding excessively. Goma Wasti, 35, of Tarakeshwor rural municipality-5, who was admitted to Trishuli district hospital, was normal after giving birth to a baby boy, but she started bleeding excessively postnatal leading to her death, said Dr Rem Kumar Rai, medical superintendent of the hospital.
Thereafter she was airlifted to Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, where she was declared dead, he said. However, the newborn is receiving treatment at Kanti Children’s Hospital in Kathmandu, and his health condition is improving, said health workers at the hospital.
Goma was taken to Kathmandu on a chartered helicopter after the government refused to provide air service saying Nuwakot is an accessible district, said the locals. The relatives of the deceased have accused doctors of negligence.
“The doctors did not pay much attention to the mother saying the child was born normally. Relatives were also prevented from entering and taking care of the mother and newborn. The excessive bleeding was noticed only after one hour,” said the deceased’s brother Bhoj Prasad Neupane.
The body of Goma was transported to Nuwakot on Thursday night and has been kept at the hospital in protest. The family and relatives of the deceased said that they would not receive the body of Goma unless the guilty is booked.
