Acting PM Pokharel urges all to plant trees on birthday occasion

Kathmandu, Aug 24 : Acting Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel on Saturday stressed the need for initiating the trend of planting trees on the occasion of birthday.

“Apart from cutting cakes on the occasion of birthday, the culture of planting trees should be developed. The government will not shy away from taking stern action against forest land encroachments. Protecting public property is responsibility of all,” he said underscoring the need for making environment clean and maintaining greenery by planting tree saplings in public places and road sides.

The minister was inaugurating a park at Tusal in Kathmandu constituency 5. He viewed that development activities would become effective once the people’s ownership and buy-in are secured. “Stakeholders should involve in every development project. All should join hands for development activities regardless of political affiliation,” he said.

Likewise, Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya stressed the need for forwarding development activities in line with federalism.

Saying the metropolis has a plan to operate electric vehicles in the city, he pledged to upgrade roads and launch clean-up campaigns. State Assembly member Narayan Silwal said the greenery promotion campaign has started in Kathmandu. The park stretching over two ropanis of land cost Rs 3.8 million, said the ward chairperson Mohan Bahadur Bista.
