Over 1,000 Syrian refugees return home from Lebanon

Over 1,000 Syrian refugees returned Monday to their homeland from various areas in Lebanon including Tripoli, Aarsal, Tyre and Nabatieh, local media reported.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in coordination with the Lebanese General Security supervised the voluntary return of refugees to Syria, according to the National News Agency.

Refugees returned home using buses sent by the Syrian authorities to transfer them to Idlib and Homos in addition to other areas in Syria through Aboudiya border.

Lebanon is hosting 976,000 registered Syrian refugees according to the UNHCR, while the government estimates the true number of Syrian refugees in the country at 1.5 million.

To secure the return of 890,000 Syrian refugees to their homeland, Russia has drafted a strategy and presented it to the Lebanese authorities. Enditem
